" Site Found, now it is Time to Build a BOAT SHELTER for your Boat "
Now that you have found a site to build on it is time to erect a boat shelter. First you need to make and inventory of tools you will need to execute this task. You need to buy good quality tools because you will need them also for building your boat. How many tools you accumulate depends on how much of the boat you plan on doing the hands on work. You may choose to buy a bare hull or you may build the hull yourself. You may choose to contract some of the work to a boat builder, or like myself choose to do it all. By the time I put my boat in the water, I had a 40' container box full of tools that I had used to construct the boat. I had welders , planers , drill presses , you name it I had it. Your going to need to lock your tools up , what we did was build a plywood shack that could be locked up at night and it also had a shelf for working out of and a place for an epoxy pump to sit . You can make it any way you want ,make a place to hang electric cords and what ever needs to be locked up. If you use the west system , they do make a smaller mixing pump other than the gear pump , but if you are laminating large area's ,like a plywood deck the gear pump is the way to go , I had one and paid 300.00 for it but that was a while back. There are other systems so shop around to fit your budget. Now you have a place to secure your tools it is time to build your boat shelter . I built a pole barn out of 4x4's cemented in the ground and used 1/2" seconds plywood sheeting for the roof . I used rolled roofing , cap nails and plastic roofing cement to cover the plywood sheeting. I built the trusses out of cheap 2x4's . I screened in the pole barn with visqueen sandwiched between two layers of chicken wire. A good pic of the wire and visqueen is to the right of this article. It's amazing it stood through storms over the years . Once you have a shelter your ready to star with the boat's strong back.
