" Looking for a Site to Build Your Boat "
|
think it would be a real challenge to find a spot like I had in my town today. Another option would be to buy a property in reasonable distance to the water, and you have to think about how big your boat is going to be,the bigger the boat the more difficult to move and launch. Owning the property I think that would be your best shot. Keep in mind that any boat you build with any size to it your looking at 5 - 8 years to build, not only time but financial restrictions that can pop up and slow your progress down. Once you have located where you are going to be and have contracted the spot to build your boat, you are ready to prepare your site to build your boat on which I will disgust in my next update. A little story before I go this evening,While in the process of building my boat,as more people started building more boats ,the guys running the yard had this little thing they called Boatyard Saturday Night. Well every Saturday evening about 6 pm they would roll up with about three or four sacks of Oysters and a couple kegs of beer and by 6 pm every body was ready to call it a day. We had at that time about 13 boats being built and most everybody had a wife that would make a covered dish to bring to

this Saturday Night Festival . Of course they would also invite all their friends who also bring food to this event. One of the owners would crank up a couple of 50 gallon drum grills for anyone who had something to grill or had to steam their oysters because they were not into eating them raw as I was. On one of these particular Saturday's in the early morning we were witnessing the " Calypso " coming down the Intracoastal Waterway. So it did not take long for about 4 individuals to launch dinghy"s to go over and inspect that boat when it docked at the shipyards for a unexpected repair. So they came back about an hour later as the Cousteau's as I understand it gave them a quick tour of that boat before leaving to check into a Hotel while they would wait for repairs to be completed. Of course they invited the crew over for the Boatyard Saturday Night. They found some extra vans to go over and pick the crew up and bring them to the island. Oh what a night that was. None of those guys spoke English except one guy who I think may have been a Doctor. They were chasing everyone's wife and every one took it as great fun,of course I had no wife . I wanted to get and early start in the morning so I left about 10:30 pm. I did hear it lasted til about 3 in the morning and yes people were moving in 3/4 time the next day. A lot of things happened in my 34 years on that Island.
